The publication of the “Omnibus” regulatory amendments, including proposals aimed at streamlining CSRD compliance, is an important milestone in Europe’s efforts to ensure EU businesses remain competitive.
When it created the CSRD, the European Union succeeded for the first time in positioning its own environmental standards as global benchmarks. The European Commission’s decision to maintain the fundamental principles of auditability, extraterritoriality, and dual materiality confirm the significance of these principles for securing the future success of European businesses.
Sustainability has proven itself to be an essential and undeniable driver of growth, and of value-creation.
This is not merely about politics, it is above all a strategic economic issue.
Regulatory frameworks will keep evolving. They are not a solution in themselves. They serve as a guide, and a piece of the overall puzzle – along with businesses’ commitment to taking action on a global scale, and an ongoing recognition that sustainable business transformation is essential in order to remain competitive.
To achieve this, we must arm ourselves with the means to achieve our ambitions. We must involve businesses in this movement as much as possible, as they are the biggest agents of change in our economy. And we must urgently take the action that both climate change, and the international business climate, demand of us.
